The school counseling and prevention system was lacking a crucial pillar: uniform standards for professional and methodological activities. These standards are intended to ensure that children with diverse needs and their families receive the same high-quality care throughout Slovakia. The standards are developed in the interest of children and their families, but the agents of this change are all professional and teaching staff in school support teams, counseling and prevention centers, and special education facilities.
